Changes from 01 August 2019 to the way we advertise Council and Housing Association properties

Changes from 01 August 2019 to the way we advertise Council and Housing Association properties

From Thursday the 01 August 2019 the length of time a property is advertised and available to bid on will be reducing by 1 day. Properties will still be advertised from 00:01 on a Thursday but the advertising cycle will now end at 23:59 on Sunday rather than at 23:59 on Monday.

You will need to make sure that from the first of August you place any bids in your usual way before the new cycle end time of 23:59pm on Sunday.  You will be able to find out your final bidding position by logging into your account each Monday.

We’re making this small change because 71% of people put their bids in on a Thursday with only 6% of our customers placing bids on the Monday. This change will free up HomeChoice officers to concentrate on the shortlisting process, make offers of accommodation, arrange property viewings and help people into properties. People bidding will be contacted more quickly to let them know whether they have been successful.

  • you will still have four days to bid on a property- don't bid on a property until you have looked at the area and know that you would be interested

  • you can bid at any time within the four days as your final bidding position is confirmed when adverts close

Published: Thursday 19 July 2018

Wanting to move? Why not consider a Mutual Exchange?

A mutual exchange is when two or more council tenants or housing association tenants, in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, who occupy permanent self-contained accommodation, have a legal right to exchange their tenancies under section 92 of the Housing Act 1985.

  • Each tenant must move into their exchange partner’s property
  • A tenant cannot exchange into an empty property
  • You must not exchange your property without our permission

You can exchange with;

  • Another St. Leger Homes tenant;
  • A tenant of a housing association;
  • A tenant of another council.
