Housing Options Service

The Homelessness Reduction Act introduced new duties to provide free advice to all residents in the local area.

We offer support and help whether you are homeless or will become homeless in the future. We will give you advice based on your personal circumstances.

There are lots of ways to help you stay in your current home.

If that is not an option we can help you to find a different home.

Threatened with homelessness

A person is 'threatened with homelessness' if they:

  • are likely to become homeless in 56 days

  • have received a valid notice to quit (section 21 notice from your landlord)

  • have received a notice that landlord requires possession of your accommodation (NOSP) which expires within 56 days.

If you are threatened with homelessness and are eligible for help, we can support you to prevent your homelessness.

A person could be 'homeless' if they:

  • have no home in the UK or elsewhere that they have a legal right to occupy

  • have a moveable home such as a boat or caravan and there is nowhere it can be placed lawfully

  • you're at risk from harm if you stay in your current home

If you think you may be homeless or threatened with homelessness, the earlier you contact us, the quicker we will be able to assist and support you to remain in your home or move to another home.

We will talk to you about your circumstances to help us to understand your current situation.  The information we gather will enable us to complete a personalised housing plan with you and agree with you what you need to do and also what we need to do to support you.  You will need to let us know of any changes in your circumstances and  updates to your personalised housing plan.
