If you think your accommodation is unaffordable we may be able to help. We will take into account:
If you have rent arrears we will consider why you cannot pay, not merely the fact that the rent was not paid.
Where benefits form part of an applicant's financial resources we will complete an Income & Expenditure form to calculate if it is reasonable living expenses and consider whether you can afford to make up shortfalls between housing benefits and rent without being deprived of basic essentials such as food, clothing, heating, transport and other essentials specific to their circumstances.
It cannot be reasonable to expect you to continue to occupy accommodation when you cannot meet your financial obligations without depriving themselves of essentials such as food, clothing, heat, transport etc.
It is important for you to get in touch as soon as possible to give time for an assessment so that all housing options can be explored.
